March in Paris….Not Yet April in Paris, But A Lot of Fun!!

Posted on March 28, 2011

It is becoming an annual tradition for me now to come to Paris for the Ready to Wear Fashion Week, which happens in March. It is where French Ready to Wear designers show their wares for next season at runway fashion shows with gorgeous models and gorgeous clothes. And the shows are so much fun. They don’t have the pomp and circumstance or decorum and grandiose quality of the Haute Couture shows which happen twice a year as well. » read more »

Autumn in Paris

Posted on October 25, 2010

After a glorious September in San Francisco (following a freezing summer, the coldest in years), instead of a few golden days of Indian summer, we had weeks of it, and I lay in the sun like a lizard soaking up the last rays of sun (even though it’s no longer p.c., I always feel better with a tan, at least in the summer months, and am city pale the rest of the year)—-I trotted through New York in October (and appeared on the CBS Early Show for my new book “Legacy”), and it was just the beginning of fall in New York. And from there I went to Paris, and found myself smack dab » read more »

Paris Fun

Posted on August 30, 2010

I just had a very fun time at a party in Paris. It was an anniversary party (20 years) given by friends, and I had a ball. She’s a journalist; he’s an editor, so it was an interesting crowd. But better yet, it was given at the MOST trendy/in/chic nightclub in Paris: Le Baron. I’ve heard about it for years, since my kids go there, but I’ve never had an excuse to go. (My kids love me, but let’s face it, the last thing they want when they go to a trendy nightclub is their mother tagging along » read more »

Summer in Paris

Posted on August 23, 2010

When I came back to Paris in June, it was very, very chilly, kind of gray and rained a lot. And it looked like we were going to miss Spring entirely. Sometimes that happens here, and you can have a cold June, or even July. But then, overnight, » read more »

San Francisco ‘Summer’?

Posted on August 16, 2010

I think I’ve mentioned to you before Mark Twain’s comment about San Francisco. He said that the coldest winter he ever spent was summer in San Francisco. And he wasn’t kidding. » read more »

Paris Dinner Parties

Posted on July 12, 2010

My friends and I often complain in San Francisco, that no one entertains, no one gives dinner parties, no one seems to invite anyone over. I used to entertain a lot when I was married, and give lots of dinner parties, and I rarely do anymore either, but when I do (usually friendly evenings of Mexican food, or the poker parties I love, with pizza, roast chicken, » read more »

Art Basel

Posted on July 5, 2010

As you may remember I had a contemporary art gallery in San Francisco for 4 years, which (much to my chagrin) I closed a few years ago. I absolutely LOVED it, being involved with contemporary art, and bringing artists and buyers/collectors together was one of my great joys. I am always particularly excited by unknown and emerging artists, and discovering their work. And even now, » read more »

Restaurant Report and Good Morning America Appearance

Posted on June 7, 2010

Hi Everybody,

I’ve been meaning to tell you about a restaurant for a while, after my last stay in Paris. I had been there years before and forgotten about it, it’s a wonderful bistro in the 7th arrondissement in Paris, called “La Fontaine de Mars”, it’s small and crowded, but with an airy, spacious outdoor terrace, typically French food and great atmosphere, and word must travel, because apparently President Obama » read more »

Hometown

If you ask an American “what” they are (historically, nationally, by ancestry), they will usually say something like “part Irish, part Scotch, part English, German, Swedish…maybe a little drop of French.” They’re aware of what nationality their ancestors were, and they are equally clear about what nationality they are, despite the mixes in their ancestry. They’re American. And if they have one, » read more »

Fashion Week in Paris, Part II

Posted on March 15, 2010

Hi Everybody!!!

I told you about the fashion shows I went to last week, at the ready to wear shows in Paris, and I don’t want to overdo it if you’re not big into fashion, but the shows I went to in the past week were just too good, and too interesting not to tell you about them. And once again, I had a ton of fun, going to the shows with my daughters. I went to some of the ‘big guns’ this week, the shows put on by the important designers, although the ones I saw previously were by important designers too. » read more »
