Hi Everybody,

Wow!!! The aftermath of Christmas…..I love the holidays, and all the cozy, childlike traditions we embrace. The old decorations we hang on the tree from bygone years, » read more »

Auld Lang Syne…

Posted on December 28, 2010

New Year’s Eve is always a dilemma for me. Maybe a little like Valentine’s Day, only worse. If you don’t have a romance in your life, and aren’t a couple, you’re pretty much left out » read more »

Giving Thanks

Posted on November 23, 2010

As you all know, I talk a lot about gratitude, and how important I think it is. And I love knowing that there is a holiday dedicated to that idea. I know, it’s about family and food, and sharing a good meal with friends, and we all fret and stress about who’s doing the cooking, do we have enough, is the turkey too dry and who will carve it, and we groan over the one guest someone invited that no one likes (but maybe really needed a place to go). Squabbles break out, children show up in ridiculous outfits, » read more »

Autumn in Paris

Posted on October 25, 2010

After a glorious September in San Francisco (following a freezing summer, the coldest in years), instead of a few golden days of Indian summer, we had weeks of it, and I lay in the sun like a lizard soaking up the last rays of sun (even though it’s no longer p.c., I always feel better with a tan, at least in the summer months, and am city pale the rest of the year)—-I trotted through New York in October (and appeared on the CBS Early Show for my new book “Legacy”), and it was just the beginning of fall in New York. And from there I went to Paris, and found myself smack dab » read more »

Memorial Day Weekend

Posted on May 31, 2010

Wow….already…Memorial Day weekend. I think this marks the beginning of summer, even before the 4th of July rolls around. Memorial Day weekend always marked the beginning of summer for me, when you get ready for the warmer weather, summer plans, kids are almost out of school, college kids are already on vacation—–speaking of which, » read more »

Risen, Reborn, Renewed

Posted on April 5, 2010

At this of year, as at Christmas and Chanukah time, both the Jewish and Christian faiths have important holidays: Passover and Easter. Last week was an important week in both faiths.

I am told that one of the important themes of Passover is ‘freedom’, » read more »

Valentine’s Day….I hope yours was a good one!!!

Posted on February 16, 2010

As I’ve shared with you before, my relationship to Valentine’s Day has always been a little sketchy, or at least it got off to an early somewhat unsatisfactory start. My first memory of Valentine’s Day was when I was the only girl in my third grade class who didn’t get a Valentine. » read more »

Whew!!! We Made It!!!

Posted on January 13, 2010

Well, we did it. The holidays are now officially over. Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year, and even Epiphany/the Feast of the Kings. The holidays can be so challenging and depressing for some. It is a time of joy and disappointments, excitement and happy times and dashed hopes in some cases. It is a time for families to be together, and also a time when people can feel very much alone. » read more »

The Feast of the Kings

Posted on January 5, 2010

January 6th is epiphany, the Feast of the Kings, and ever since I can remember we had a ‘kings cake’ (or did someone just call it that??). It’s a bland cake with almond paste in it, which isn’t so special because of the cake, but because of what’s in it. Hidden somewhere in the cake is a tiny little plastic ‘baby’, or fish, and whoever gets it in their piece of cake will have good luck all year!!!! The cake is pretty simple, » read more »

New Year’s Eve

Posted on December 29, 2009

Now if any night of the year is a mixed bag and a mixed blessing—-New Year’s Eve is definitely it!!!! For years, I’ve gone back and forth about what to do about it. Most of the time, no matter what you do on New Year’s Eve, you feel that you may have done the wrong thing—unless you had a really great one!!!! When I was married, » read more »
