Back to Work

Posted on September 3, 2009

Well, I guess the summer is really over, and it’s back to work for me. My kids have left, back to their schools, jobs, and cities. My college kids started school. And I went back to work this weekend. I spent part of it editing a book that’s coming out next year. » read more »

Summer Vacation Photos

Posted on August 20, 2009

Here are some photos of this summer’s family vacation.  These are pictures with my daughters Victoria, Vanessa and Samantha, on a boat in Italy, near Corsica (which is actually French).  We had a graduation party for Victoria, who graduated from college in May.  And the young man in one of the photographs is Vanessa’s boyfriend, Chad Muska, who is a famous skateboarder.  (Younger fans are sure to know who he is).  We had a great time!! » read more »

My Summer Vacation

Posted on August 13, 2009

I chuckle as I write that, wasn’t that the topic of the first assignment we wrote in first grade???

I’ve had a great summer so far, in Europe with six of my kids. We’ve spent time in Paris, seeing friends, going to dinner in little bistros, doing some shopping (there are GREAT sales in all the Paris stores in July and January). We just hang out together, and enjoy each others’ company (cards, Scrabble, movies on DVD, and casual lunches and dinners out, or cooked at home). I revel in the joy and blessing of being able to spend time with my children, and am so grateful they are still willing to spend time with me!!! » read more »

Annabelle

Posted on August 6, 2009

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been having a very busy summer, and in the past few weeks a good one, after a very bumpy late spring. I shared with you that we lost my beloved stepmother, my late son’s best friend, and even my daughter’s much loved little dog. We had one more big loss and heartbreak, before the summer got off to a decent start. And since I share family events with you, and have talked about our dogs, I wanted to bring you up to date on this too. » read more »

A Night On The Town With My Girls!

Recently, on my way to Paris, I stopped for the night in New York, to visit with my daughters, as I always do. I usually arrive at dinner time, and go to some simple restaurant with them. I wear my travel outfit which looks » read more »

Fashion Week in Paris

Posted on April 24, 2009

When my kids were small, I used to take all 5 of my daughters to the Haute Couture fashion shows in Paris, which were spectacular shows of beautiful clothes, all hand made and hand sewn, worn by gorgeous models in extraordinary venues. The shows were a major event twice a year, » read more »

That’s Mean, Quit It!

Posted on January 16, 2009

I was reading a book the other day, I can’t remember what, which spoke about people’s behaviours, and how much simpler it is with kids. There was something in the book about dealing with mean people, and it said that when a child does something mean, another child, either the victim or an observer, will simply say ‘That was mean! Quit it!’ It’s so simple and straight forward and really resonated with me. » read more »

Boundaries

Posted on January 9, 2009

This is a BIG subject.  It’s one of those New Age words we toss around, and which has become standard in our modern psycho babbles.  Boundaries.  The very first time I became aware of it was at a psych group I attended where the word was bandied about heavily, with people complaining about others with no boundaries….hm….whatever.  There was a lot for me to absorb in the group that day and the word didn’t register heavily on my radar.  My son had died, my marriage was falling apart, ‘boundaries’ (whatever that meant) was the last thing on my mind.  I was fighting for my emotional survival, and someone whining about their roommate’s cats and bad boundaries was the least of my problems. » read more »

Family Feuds

Posted on December 4, 2008

As the holidays approach, starting with Thanksgiving (I just don’t consider Ground Hog Day the start of the holiday season), a million tender memories come to mind:  making brownies with my children, decorating the trees, their eyes full of wonder as we went downtown to look at the store windows all decorated for Christmas.  Christmas is truly my favorite time of year, and always has been.  But I know that for many, it brings up other memories too, of family dissent, challenges, and disappointments.  No one gets off scott free in life, the bittersweet for my family at holidays now is the absence of my late son Nick.  We will always miss him and his crazy antics over the holidays, and at other times.  So we all have our tough moments amid the joy. » read more »
