4/12/23, Au revoir, but not Adieu and hello on Instagram!!
Hello Everyone,
I hope you had a happy Easter, or warm Passover, or just a nice break in the usual routine.
I’ve given it a lot of thought, and I think it’s time for a change. When I started the blog, Instagram didn’t exist or hadn’t reached its full popularity yet. I didn’t think of my life as ‘visual’ then. People were taking photographs of their lunch, at first, and I’m not a big eater, tend to eat lunch and even dinner very haphazardly when I’m writing, and a photograph of a boiled egg and a yogurt didnt seem like much to share with you. And when I don’t leave my office for 3 or 4 weeks at a time, and hang around in old cozy cashmere nightgowns while I write, that didn’t seem too appealing either. But Instagram has grown, and so have I. We’ve evolved. The blog has been a good place to share my thoughts with you on philsophical issues, or important events. But for the past 3+ years, I have finally grown into instagram and share quick thoughts or images with you four times a week, and even photos of my dogs, who are a big part of my life. Instagram has evolved, and so have I, and I can keep you notified of what new book is coming out when. I can show you when I go out, let you know what’s happening in Paris, and even show you my holiday table or Christmas tree.
My publisher, Random House, feeds the Facebook posts from this blog and my instagram. And I post four times a week on the Instagram, to keep you up to date on my daily life and special events. It’s a fast moving world these days, particularly since Covid. After more than two years of being restricted and confined during Covid, everyone seems to be on the move, and eager to go places and see new things. When you go to an airport now, it is stunning how many people are travelling. People are travelling a lot, they aren’t sitting at home the way they were during the confinements of Covid.
So I’ve decided to continue communicating with you almost daily on my instagram, which is easy to find at officialdaniellesteel.
And I’m going to retire from the blog for now, and give you a rest from keeping up with it. The posts on Facebook will continue as they are now. In English, all people say is “goodbye”, in French they either say “Adieu”, which is goodbye forever, OR they say “Au revoir”, which is ‘until I see you again’. I prefer that one, and I’ll be seeing you on Instagram, just as I do now, with short reports of what’s new in my daily life, or the world, as I experience it. And since it’s visual, with photographs, it might be more fun for you.
So until I see you again…hopefully on Instagram tomorrow or the day after. It’s the same you, the same me. You mean more to me than ever, and I am SOOO GRATEFUL to you for reading the books. So keep on doing fun, new, exciting things, keep expecting every week to be better than the last. And I’ll be talking to you on the instagram, almost every day. So au revoir for now, and we’ll let the blog rest for now. Thank you for following me faithfully for these many years!!!

Saddly I think it is “adieu” then, as I don’t have instagram, facebook and the likes and zero intention of having. It was fun while it lasted, I guess. I wish you all the best.

I am so sad to see your blog end. It was something I looked forward to each week. Although I do follow you on Instagram and am always happy to read your posts there, I thought your blog dealt with deeper thoughts — world events, raising children, religion.
That’s why I enjoy your books so much, I feel that your characters are deeper than most writers’ characters.
I particularly enjoy the characters who live simply and seek solitude by the ocean (Ben in Summer’s End, Matt in Safe Harbor, Coco in One Day at a Time).
When I read your books, I find a life to which I can aspire.
I can see that a blog must be burdensome to maintain, and I thank you so much for the years of enjoyment your blog brought me.

Personally, I didn’t want to use Instagram at first, but a couple of months ago I decided to open an account for professional reasons.
In order to motivate myself, I borrowed “Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram For Seniors For Dummies” at the library, even though I’m in my forties. And it worked!
This blog has been a fabulous opportunity to be intimate with you, so to say.
I am so grateful for it. Thank you!!!

I really enjoy your blog and find it very interesting. But I have a suggestion for you please write a sequel for Sisters, I loved the book and can read it over and over. Plus it’ll be interesting to see how you developed the characters.
I have been reading your books scence 1988 when I picked out your book from the library. I have and will always read your books.

Hi Danielle, You actually have a blog? I just picked up, again, your book In His Fathers’ Steps. I read it a few years ago in English and picked it up again to read in my second language: Spanish. The story is amazing. I don’t remember it all from the first time around, but this time, with pen in hand and Spanish/English dictionary open, it’s hitting home. Maybe because since I last read it we’ve been through a Pandemic which they say Today (May 5, 2023) is no longer an emergency… It has been a long one and we have lost much but gained so much. Truly family is something to hold on to!!! Thank you, Danielle, for all your writings. Looking forward to finishing up this book and starting on a new one. Linda K. Morales
Oh – how sad! I don’t use facebook, instagram or twitter so, not sure you will ever get my email. I will pick up another one of your books though at my bookstore when I am out again. I sure hope they don’t get rid of books! I heard someone say recently, on the local news, that we shouldn’t throw our books out though – since they soon may become obsolete! Now that’s hard to believe!

i just discovered you after your recent Costco Connection cover story and am enjoying learning about you through your own words. In furtherance I ordered one of your books on Amazon and hopefully will enjoy. Unfortunately emailing is as high tech as i get, I do not do Instagram or other social media, so most likely we will not connect now thst you switched platforms. Fyi, ala Basho I write Haiku i n English but in his in 5-7-5 “on” format, mostly for friends & family.

I’ve been one of your avid fans for years and you are beautiful. You have no visible eyebrows and I don’t understand why you won’t have a permanent makeup artist “give you” eyebrows nor do I under stand why you keep your hair harshly pulled back and so long when a shorter hair do wit soft curls would look so beautiful on you. I am new to your books, I just started reading in January this year. I am on my seventh book! I love the way you write and keeps me turning the pages to find out the story ends.
I was wondering about your book Legacy which I am reading now. . Was that a made up story of the Indian girl and the Frenchman? All your references to the Mormon ancestry in Salt Lake and the other one in South Dakota are real so it makes for a true story.
