12/28/15, Goodbye 2015, New Vistas up ahead
Hi Everyone,
I hope your Christmas, or Chanukah, holidays were wonderful. I had a really terrific time with all my kids, and got wonderful gifts I REALLY loved from them. But the best gift of all was being with them, and sharing family time. We were all so grateful to be together. And our holiday time is almost over. They leave tomorrow, and on Tuesday, I’ll be at my desk, back at work, working on books for the months ahead. So my holidays are drawing to a close. Each one of my kids gave me special gifts, but their presence at home was what I cherished most. One of my daughters gave me gorgeous evening shoes, with “I love you, Mommy” written in sequins in French, and a gold bracelet that says I love you, and a bunch of other lovely presents too. Two of my daughters gave me a beautiful little table from the l950’s, by a furniture designer whose work I love, it has an Asian scene on it, and I put it in the living room. Knowing how I love shoes, several of my daughters gave me shoes I’m crazy about. And another of my daughters gave me two great jade bracelets and a necklace. One of my older sons gave me a fantastic giant poster (about 5 feet high and 5 feet wide) with photographs of 9 antique typewriters, and the words “Mom” and “Love” and other words typed out. And my youngest son gave me a little journal I will cherish forever, where he wrote down his favorite memories with me, of things we’ve done together, and a ski trip we took together about 5 years ago, he wrote down all the things he loves about our relationship, what he admires in me, what he feels I’ve taught him, and the advice I’ve shared. it is an incredible gift of love, and said things any mother would give just about anything to hear. They were all incredibly generous and thoughtful, and we shared some wonderful meals and fun times together. We are all sad to see the holidays end as they pack to leave.
They all have New Year’s plans in their various cities, that sound like fun, and they’ll enjoy. I’ve had a couple of invitations, but I’m opting for an easy, relaxed New Year’s eve, the kind I like best. I hate going out on New Year’s eve, being on the road, or in a crowd of people trying too hard to have fun (while I wish I were home in bed!!). So I am opting to spend New Year’s eve with my two tiny teacup Chihuahuas, Minnie and Blue, happily in my pajamas, and maybe watching reruns of Downton Abbey on DVD. YES!!! There are more exciting ways to spend that evening, and I could be in Paris or New York, or at a black tie dinner….but Minnie and Blue win this one hands down!! I’m happy not to be going out, watching everyone try too hard. And I’d much rather be in my PJ’s than an evening gown. A glamourous romance to celebrate the new year would be nice, but I’m very happy with my new year plans.
It has been a busy, sometimes turbulent year. I’ve worked hard, and you’ve been enjoying the books. I’m REALLY excited about publishing 6 books next year, and I think you’ll love the books that will be coming out. I hope you will. We’ll start off with the next new one, “Blue” on January 19th, about a homeless boy, who crosses paths with a remarkable woman who takes him under her wing, and they change each other’s lives. It’s a book about never giving up hope, and how life can be renewed when you least expect it.
I hope that the coming year will be filled with joy and hope for you, with victories, big and small pleasures, good friends, good health, wonderful times, happy days, success at your jobs, I hope it will be a year that sees all your dreams come to fruition. I hope it will be your BEST year ever. So here’s to 2016!!!! And however you choose to see the new year in, I hope that 2016 will be fabulous for you!! The best is yet to come!!!
all my love and Happy New Year!!!
Danielle

Ms. Steel, I too prefer to stay close to home on New Year’s Eve. In fact, I just received a beautiful hardcover copy of THE KISS, and plan to spend the evening reading.
You mention above that you wouldn’t mind a glamorous romance. I realize you value your privacy, but Wikipedia lists Ian Thomas Matthews as a recent spouse. Did you remarry this year?
I feel terribly intrusive asking such a question, but as a fan I am curious.
I wish you all the best in the New Year 2016. You have a very large year with 6 books to fulfill. Can’t wait to read them. Love Stella Ann
Hi Danielle. Well an hour ago my gang left for home to the big city. We just shared a brunch dessert of delicious cheesecake to celebrate my mom’s 92nd birthday. It was a wonderful way to end our Christmas celebrations together! We had a quiet Christmas of three until my two adult children with my daughter’s husband and son’s live together girlfriend arrived on the 25th late and also the 26th. We had a pretend Christmas eve on the 26th watching A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation(I got to watch White Christmas,my childhood favorite, on actual Christmas Eve). We had lots of treats and family favorites including bacon topped deviled eggs and homemade shortbread and decorated iced sugar cookies. Christmas on the 27th was fun with gifts and turkey dinner. Thanks for sharing with us Danielle! Janine.
Thanks for sharing your lovely gifts with us! I agree about New Years Eve, in a way it’s a bonus of “getting older”, no more disappointments on NYE! Hope yours is a blessed one.
Love,
Lorraine
Hello Danielle Merry Christmas and a happy new year. You are such a strong awesome author. I just read your story about your son and so it touched my heart. It was very hard to read. And I can feel your pain. I am so happy that you keep forward and a great mother to your other eight children. Big big hugs and keep your head up.
Hi Danielle,
Happy New Year to you too!!!
Am looking forward to 2016 as I’ll be (finally) writing my book and pursuing higher studies.
Hope you have a wonderful year ahead!!
With all my love,
Asavari

Happy New Year, Danielle.
Perhaps “Blue” will set the tone for 2016 with hope and renewal.
“It’s a book about never giving up hope, and how life can be renewed when you least expect it.”
Perhaps it is prayer for all of us who need it.
Thank you!

Very happy new year to you!! I am looking forward to the books you have coming out in 2016. Was checking out your books on Amazon the other day. Your plans sound great. I am staying in with my cats in bed watching movies. It is very cold where I live and all the new years events are super crowded- not very fun 🙂 I have been reading your blog posts for a few years now and they are always very refreshing, funny, and insightful!
Hi Danielle,
Wishing you and your family (and Minnie and Blue) a happy and blessed 2016!
Warm regards,
Elaine
Hi Danielle!
2016 Best wishes to you and your family.
You will see, you will have a very nice glamourous romance to celebrate the new year 2017, I know that 2016 will meet all your expectations.

Dear Danielle,
I have read many of your books and seen your films which I enjoy immensely. I love and believe in happy endings as well as you. I am an American who works as an “Ambassador” for Peace here in Paris and around the world organizing conferences for world peace. I admire the great work you do to help others and your beautiful heart and soul which shines deeply through your eyes.
Reading recently your blog about the loss of your son, was heartbreaking but I have had many amazing experiences I would love to share with you that would help heal your heart. Your son is with you every minute and is working through you to heal the heart of others, through your great work. You will see him again, and he will have grown to understand life through watching your shining example of love for others. May you be comforted this week during the anniversary of his passing.
Sending my deepest thoughts of comfort for you this week.
With kindest regards,
Edy
